Wilma Mae Gentry, 90, of Mount Vernon, Illinois passed away at 12:28 P.M. June 7, 2018 at the Mount Vernon Residential Living Center. She was born August 16, 1927 in Stewartsville, Indiana to the late Benjamin Harrison and Mary Lou (Buttrey) Bradshaw. Wilma married David Otto Gentry on August 16, 1952 in Harrisburg, Illinois. They were blessed with 41 years of marriage before he preceded her in death on October 18, 1993.
Wilma is survived by her daughters, Brenda Jo Pearson and husband, Larry and Gaila Jeanette Morris and husband, Gary, both of Mount Vernon; eight grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; 11 great-great-grandchildren; siblings, Jerry Bradshaw and wife, Carol Ann of Grand Rivers, Kentucky and Juanita Purcell of Greenville, Kentucky; sister-in-law, Delores Bradshaw of Carmi, Illinois; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents and husband, Wilma was preceded in death by her son, David Olen Gentry; granddaughter, Michele Pearson; great-grandson, Aaron Pearson; and brothers, Fred Bradshaw, Harrison “Red” Bradshaw, Robert “Fuzz” Bradshaw, and Cecil Forrester, Jr.
Wilma was a longtime member of Lebanon Missionary Baptist Church. She was also a member of the East Salem Friendship Club and volunteered at nursing homes for over 30 years. Wilma’s greatest joy was spending time with her family. She was dearly loved and will be missed by all who knew her.
A Visitation will be held Monday, June 11, 2018 from 5:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. at Lebanon Missionary Baptist Church in rural Mount Vernon. The Funeral Service will be held Tuesday, June 12, 2018 at 10:00 A.M. at the church with Reverend Benton Fitzjerrells and Reverend Randy Hayes officiating. Interment will follow at East Salem Cemetery in rural Mount Vernon. Memorials may be made in Wilma’s honor to the Alzheimer's Association, Lebanon Missionary Baptist Church, or American Cancer Society.
