Walter L. Olin, 88, of Boulder, Colorado passed away at 5:38 A.M. October 23, 2018 at Morning Star Senior Living Center in Boulder, Colorado. He was born July 13, 1930 in Mount Vernon, Illinois to the late Harry W. Olin and Jesse Fay Olin (Tucker). He married Annetta Corrine Olin (Summer) on June 15, 1958 in Mount Vernon, Illinois. They were blessed with 60 years of marriage.
In addition to his wife, Walter is survived by his daughters, Monica A. Olin of Colorado Springs, Colorado, and Janice L. Vlachos (husband Dean Vlachos) of Boulder, Colorado; son, Daniel R. Olin (wife, Shelbi Olin) of Phoenix, Arizona; four grandchildren, Eleni Vlachos, Nikolas Vlachos, Jalin Olin, and Shaila Olin; and several nieces and nephews.
Walter was preceded in death by his parents; infant sister, Winnie Cathrine Olin; three brothers, Harry E. Olin, Earl R. Olin, and Gilbert W. Olin; and sister, Rhea Louise Williamson.
Walter proudly served his country in the United States Navy during the Korean Conflict. He worked as an Industrial Manager at ACF Industries, Honey-well, Westinghouse, and 26 years at IBM in Boulder, after which he retired. Walter was a member of the Holiday Rambler Travel Club and the IBM Quarter Century Club. He also enjoyed gardening, camping, and making homemade ice cream for the family. He graduated from Bethel grade school, Mount Vernon High School, and received a Bachelor of Science Degree from University of Maryland in Industrial Management. Walter will be missed greatly by all who knew him.
Visitation will be held from 9:00 to 10:00 A.M. Tuesday, October 30, 2018 at Hughey Funeral Home in Mount Vernon, Illinois. Funeral Service will begin at 10:00 A.M. with Pastor Daniel Olin officiating. Interment will follow at Mount Vernon Memorial Gardens in Woodlawn, Illinois. Members of the Mount Vernon American Legion Post #141 will conduct Full Military Honors at the cemetery.
