Virgil W. DeBoer, 79, of Mount Vernon, Illinois passed away at 12:00 P.M. May 3, 2018 at Nature Trail Nursing Home. He was born August 10, 1938 in Pekin, Illinois to Myron and Ruth (Collins) DeBoer. He married Sandy DeBoer in Pekin Illinois on August 11, 1962. They were blessed with 55 years of marriage before he preceded her in death.
In addition to his wife, Virgil is survived by daughter, Michelle DeBoer of Tremont, Illinois; son, Dan DeBoer of Webster Groves, Missouri; sisters, LaVetta Sevier and husband, Gary of Pekin, Illinois, Pam King and husband, Allen of Pekin, Illinois, and Cathy Ward and husband Gary of Kansas; and several nieces and nephews also survive.
He was preceded in death by his parents; son, Todd DeBoer; and brother, Myron “Mick” DeBoer.
Virgil was an avid golfer for 61 years. He was a sports enthusiast and was a member of Green Hill Country Club. Virgil received his master’s degree at Illinois State University. Virgil worked as a teacher, coach, and counselor at Mount Zion for many years. Later in life he worked as a teacher representative for I.F.T. Teacher Union until he retired in 1995. He will be missed dearly by all who knew him.

Monday, May 7, 2018 at Hughey Funeral Home with Father Iffert officiating. Interment: Oakwood Cemetery in Mount Vernon, Illinois.
