Vanessa McAtee

September 11, 1957 ~ November 22, 2018 (age 61)

Vanessa Ann McAtee, 61, of Mt. Vernon, Illinois departed this world to be with her Lord  at 11:29 A.M. November 22, 2018. She was born September 11, 1957 in Muskogee, Oklahoma, the daughter of the late Ralph Cazenave and Shirley Jean Briscoe. Vanessa was later adopted by the late Curtis Blount, Sr. and took his name.

Vanessa moved to Centralia, Illinois in grade school. She received the Lord Jesus at an early age and at age eight, she received the Baptism of the Holy Ghost. Vanessa was a member of New Bethel Baptist Church in Centralia, Illinois and Calvary United Pentecostal Church in Mt. Vernon, Illinois.

Vanessa was a 1975 graduate of Centralia High School, attended Northeastern Oklahoma State College in Tahlequah, Oklahoma, and was a registered member of the Cherokee Nation.

In August 1988, Vanessa met her future husband, William Nelson McAtee III. Four years later, they became a couple on April 3, 1992 and later chose that date for their wedding, April 3, 2008.

In addition to her husband, Vanessa is survived by her children, Samarian Phillips of Indiana, Minyon Blount Mincey of Indiana, Sophia Blount of Indiana, Dortanian (Amber) Blount of Illinois, Shirleta Blount of Illinois, and D’Angelo (Jesika) Blount of Missouri; thirty grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and siblings, Lindell Blount, Curtis (LesLee) Blount, Jr. Lesa (Will) Briscoe, Darryl Blount, Donna Blount, Doretha (Ronald) Barrett, and James Blount.

In addition to her parents, Vanessa was preceded in death by her grandson, K’Briel McGee; and great-granddaughter, Lamaria Williams.

Vanessa was dearly loved and will be sadly missed forever by her husband and family.

A Funeral Service will be held Saturday, December 1, 2018 at 12:00 P.M. at Calvary United Pentecostal Church in Mt. Vernon, Illinois with Reverend Steve Edwards and Reverend Ronald Johnson officiating.  Friends may call from 10:00 A.M. to 12:00 P.M. Memorials may be made to the McAtee family, in care of William MaAtee.
