Thomas E. Farthing, 77, of Mount Vernon, Illinois, formerly of Murray, Kentucky, passed away at 12:54 P.M. October 2, 2018 at Mount Vernon Health Care Center. He was born December 1, 1940 in Sturgis, Kentucky to the late William T. and Nina K. (Reynolds) Farthing.
Thomas is survived by his sisters, Elizabeth Leigh Greenwell and husband, Zack of Mount Vernon, Illinois and Rita Bell and husband, Steve of Lake Malone, Kentucky; nieces and nephews, Chris Greenwell and wife, Donna of Louisville, Kentucky, Leslie Baum and husband, Brian of Mount Vernon, Illinois, Jeff Bell and wife, Cindy of Madisonville, Kentucky, Andy Bell and wife, Callie of Madisonville, Kentucky, Matt Bell and wife, Amy of Madisonville, Kentucky, and Aaron Bell and wife, Ashley of Leitchfield, Kentucky; and several great-nieces and great-nephews.
In addition to his parents, Thomas was preceded in death by his wife, Myrna Farthing.
Thomas proudly served his country as a Captain in the United States Marine Corp. He worked as a teacher at Murray State University. He was also a farmer and raised horses. Thomas was a member of Cumberland Presbyterian Church in Sturgis, Kentucky. He was dearly loved and will be missed by all who knew him.
There will be no public services held.
