Ruby M. Ferguson, 89, of Mount Vernon, Illinois passed away at 1:00 P.M. October 11, 2018 at her residence. She was born February 1, 1929 in East Saint Louis, Illinois to the late Charles and Beulah (Stover) Pflaum. Ruby married Albert Ferguson on May 17, 1947. They were blessed with nearly 56 years of marriage before he preceded her in death on January 29, 2003.
Ruby is survived by her children, Diana Carkin and husband, John of Moore Haven, Florida, Edward Ferguson and wife, Peggy of Mount Vernon, Illinois, and Dorothy Johnson and husband, Alfred of Mount Vernon, Illinois; grandchildren, Bryan Ferguson and wife, Angie, Tim Ferguson and wife, Laura, Kari Lappin and husband, Ben, Jill Habben and husband, Jason, Jaime Wise and husband, Brett, Joshua Johnson and wife, Sonia, and Blake Johnson and wife, Danielle; and great-grandchildren, Derek Ferguson, Bryan Ferguson, Miley Ferguson, Camryn Habben, Cody Habben, Colin Wise, Rhylee Wise, Kirk Johnson, Bella Lappin, and Baylin Lappin.
In addition to her parents and husband, Ruby was preceded in death by her daughter, Debra Ferguson; and great-grandson, Kyle Ferguson.
Ruby worked as a Dietary Supervisor at Good Samaritan Hospital for 25 years. She also served for the Foster Grandparent Program at One Hope United. Ruby’s greatest joy was spending time with her family. She was dearly loved and will be missed by all who knew her.
Visitations will be held on Sunday, October 14, 2018 from 5:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. and Monday, October 15, 2018 from 9:00 A.M. to 11:00 A.M., all at West Side Baptist Church in Mount Vernon, Illinois. A Funeral Service will be held Monday, October 15, 2018 at 11:00 A.M. at West Side Baptist Church with Reverend Merle Fullerton and Reverend Don Evans officiating. Interment will follow at Mount Zion Cemetery in Ashley, Illinois. Memorials may be made in Ruby’s honor to the West Side Baptist Church or Hospice of Southern Illinois.
