Ross Poston, 81, of Mount Vernon, Illinois passed away at 11:45 A.M. October 5, 2018 at Mount Vernon Countryside Manor. He was born February 16, 1937 in Jefferson County, Illinois to the late Fred Bateman and Myrtle Bell (Willmore) Poston. Ross married Dolores (Boster) Poston on June 18, 1955 in Mount Vernon, Illinois. They were blessed with 63 wonderful years of marriage.
In addition to his wife, Ross is survived by his daughters, Tammy Wheeler and husband, Jeff and Lori Scott and husband, Chuck, all of Mount Vernon; grandchildren, Greg Wheeler, Nick Wheeler and fiancè, Talia Mays, Dustin Scott and fiancè, Krystle Williams, and Megan Keele and husband, Justin; great-grandchildren, Samantha Leneave and husband, Brandon, Lex Wheeler, Aidan Mays, Soren Mays-Wheeler, and Kazik Mays-Wheeler; siblings, Larry Poston and wife, Kaye of Mount Vernon, Christina Burton and husband, Bill of Mount Vernon, Marcella Hurt of Fairview Heights, and Esther Lawrence and husband, Bill of Fairview Heights; sister-in-laws, Rose Poston of Woodlawn, and Donna Poston of Elizabethtown, Illinois; several nieces and nephews; and his beloved poodle, Mattie Mae.
In addition to his parents, Ross was preceded in death by his granddaughter-in-law, Maggie Wheeler; nephew, Jeff Poston; niece, Bonnie Donoho; siblings, Lavern Poston, Gale Poston, and Baydean Ward; and parents-in-law, McKinley and Genevieve Boster.
Ross worked for many years as a contractor and plasterer. He was a member of the Summersville Baptist Church. He was a former member of the Masonic Lodge and a trustee of the Mount Vernon Township. Ross was well known in the dancing community. He enjoyed dancing with his wife to country and western music. He was a Saint Louis Cardinals fan and an avid golfer and bowler. Ross’ greatest joy was spending time with his family. He was dearly loved and will be missed by all who knew him.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held Saturday, October 13, 2018 at 11:00 A.M. at Summersville Baptist Church with Reverend Don Verhines officiating. Friends may call from 10:00 A.M. to 11:00 A.M. Inurnment will be held at Bethel Memorial Cemetery at a later date. Memorials may be made in Ross’ honor to the Summersville Baptist Church.
