Richard Lee Payne, 81, of Wayne City, Illinois passed away from complications following heart valve replacement at 7:07 P.M. November 23, 2018 at Christian Hospital Northeast in Saint Louis, Missouri. He was born May 17, 1937 in Wayne County, Illinois to the late Maynard and Mary Jane (Green) Payne. Richard married Jacque (House) Payne on August 19, 1967 at Saint Mary Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Mount Vernon, Illinois. They were blessed with 51 years of marriage.
In addition to his wife, Richard is survived by his daughter, Mary Elizabeth “Buffy” Rainwater and husband, Brad of Wayne City, Illinois; grandson, Braeden Payne of Wayne City, Illinois; brothers, Kendall Payne and wife, Diane of Mount Vernon, Illinois and Randy Payne and wife, Diana of Wayne City, Illinois; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, Richard was preceded in death by his aunt and uncle, Keith and Berneice Hunt.
Richard proudly served his county in the United States National Guard. He was a longtime member of Keenes Missionary Baptist Church, where he served as a Sunday school teacher, superintendent, and trustee. He was a lifelong farmer and loving husband, grandfather, and friend. Richard will be missed by all who knew and loved him.
A Visitation will be held Monday, November 26, 2018 from 5:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. at Keenes Missionary Baptist Church in Keenes, Illinois. A Funeral Service will be held Tuesday, November 27, 2018 at 11:00 A.M. at Keenes Missionary Baptist Church with Reverend Marty Lamp officiating. Interment will follow at Thomason Cemetery.
