Richard L. Curtin, 91, of Bridgeton, Missouri, formerly of Mount Vernon, Illinois passed away on November 24, 2019 at his home. Dick was born September 28, 1928 in Portland, Oregon to Lawrence and Louise (Newman) Curtin. After his parents divorced, he was raised by his father and stepmother, Helen (Wright) Curtin. Dick married Carolyn (Stich) Curtin on July 6, 1963 in Greenville, Illinois. They were blessed with 40 years of marriage before she preceded him in death on August 19, 2003.
Dick proudly served his country in the United States Marines as a Radio Instructor during the Korean War era. In 1971, he started a long career as a Laboratory Manager at Applied Research and Development Laboratory in Mount Vernon, Illinois until his retirement in 2014. He loved to spend time with his family and friends. Dick was an avid golfer and promoted golf skills to his children and grandchildren.
Dick is survived by his daughters, Meredith Yancey Curtin and Elizabeth Curtin (Christian) Becker; son, Richard L. (Sheryl) Curtin, Jr.; and grandchildren, Mary Elizabeth Curtin, Daphne Becker, Catherine Elaine Curtin, and Molly Becker.
In addition to his wife, Richard was preceded in death by his parents; and stepbrother, Jimmy.
A Visitation will be held Saturday, November 30, 2019 from 12:00 P.M. to 1:00 P.M. at Hughey Funeral Home in Mount Vernon, Illinois. A Funeral Service will begin at 1:00 P.M. Interment will follow at Oakwood Cemetery in Mount Vernon, Illinois. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in Dick’s honor to the Greatest Generation Foundation https://www.tggf.org.
