Phyllis M Keen

July 25, 1936 ~ July 15, 2019 (age 82)

Phyllis M. Keen, 82, of Mount Vernon, Illinois died peacefully with her family by her side at 10:18 P.M. July 15, 2019 at Crossroads Community Hospital. She was born July 25, 1936 in Marion County, Illinois to the late Ed Wood and Sylvia (Duke) Wood. Phyllis married Jerry F. Keen in May of 1955 in Keenes, Illinois. They were blessed with 63 years of marriage until he preceded her in death on July 13, 2018.

Phyllis is survived by her children, Jay Dee Keen of Mount Vernon, Illinois, Paula Wilson and husband, Carl of Mount Vernon, Illinois, Jarrell Keen and wife, Suellen Riley-Keen of Edwardsville, Illinois, and Jeff Keen of Mount Vernon, Illinois; grandchildren, Katie Williams and husband, Josh of Mount Vernon, Illinois, Kayla Niederhofer and husband, Cody of Mount Vernon, Illinois, Victoria Smith and husband, Mike of Dover, Ohio, Sylvia Keen of Edwardsville, Illinois, and Ava Keen of Edwardsville, Illinois; great-grandchildren, Sadie Niederhofer, Annie Williams, Maggie Williams, and Ariana Albaugh ; brother, Lyle Wood and wife, Dorothy of Mount Vernon, Illinois; and several nephews and one niece.

In addition to her parents and husband, Phyllis was preceded in death by her son, John Paul Keen; brother, Larry O. Wood; and sister-in-law, Mary Sue Wood.

Phyllis was a charter member of the Meadowbrook Christian Church where she taught Sunday school for many years. She was active in 4H and was a 4H leader for the Jefferson County Ramblers. Phyllis was also active in the Wayne County Homemakers extension. She had a cake decorating business for many years and worked as a bookkeeper for Wood Ford Tractor in Mount Vernon. She will be missed dearly by all who knew her.

A Visitation will be held from 5:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. Thursday, July 18, 2019 at Meadowbrook Christian Church in Mount Vernon, Illinois. A Funeral Service will be held at 10:30 A.M. Friday, July 19, 2019 at Meadowbrook Chrisitan Church with Reverend Richard McCormick, Mr. Ernie Collins, and Mr. Mike Sheets officiating. Interment will follow at Sursa Cemetery in Mount Vernon, lllinois. Memorials may be made to the Keen family, in care of Paula Wilson.
