Marvin D. Kelley, 88, of Mount Vernon, Illinois passed away at 1:30 A.M. February 12, 2018 at Mount Vernon Health Care Center in Mount Vernon, Illinois. He was born November 28, 1929 in Pinckneyville, Illinois. He married Shirley Jean Eldridge on December 29, 1949 in Perryville, Missouri. They were blessed with 68 years together before she preceded him in death on January 19, 2018.

Marvin is survived by his son, Michael Kelley and wife, Sherri of Lake in the Hills, Illinois; grandchildren, Sean Kelley, Maeghan Kelley, and Kyle Kelley all of Lake in the Hills, Illinois; special friends, Carl McPherson and wife, Sue of Mount Vernon, Illinois and their family; brother-in-law, Kay Eldridge and wife, Joyce of Mount Vernon, Illinois; and several nieces and nephews.

He is preceded in death by his parents; wife; daughter, Debbie Kelley; and his brothers and sisters.

Marvin played football for Pinckneyville High School and Southern Illinois University Carbondale. He worked for Illinois Power as a gas regulator and enjoyed volunteering his time for the community as a Boy Scout leader and coached baseball. He loved traveling and wintering in Texas. He was an avid outdoorsman who was often found camping, canoeing, hunting, and fishing. He was longtime active member of Logan Street Baptist Church. He was also a member of the Mount Vernon Elks Lodge #819, International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers Union #702, and Ducks Unlimited. Marvin was dearly loved and will be missed by all who knew him.

Visitation: 9:00 A.M. until 10:30 A.M. Saturday, February 17, 2018 at Hughey Funeral Home in Mount Vernon, Illinois. Funeral Service: 10:30 A.M. Saturday, February 17, 2018 at Hughey Funeral Home in Mount Vernon, Illinois with Brother Alan Smith officiating. Interment: Mount Vernon Memorial Gardens in Woodlawn, Illinois. Memorials: Celtic Hospice and to Logan Street Baptist Church.
