Martha Jane Miller Warren, 88, of Mount Vernon, Illinois passed away July 11, 2018 at White Oak Rehab Center in Mount Vernon. She was born on May 28, 1930, the eighth child of Ben and Orra Wilson of rural Jefferson County. Martha married Richard L. Miller on April 26, 1950 in Mount Vernon. He preceded her in death on August 30, 1991. Martha eloped with Wendell Paul Warren on July 6, 2005. He preceded her in death on November 29, 2009.
Martha is survived by her brother, Carl Robert "Bob" Wilson and his wife, Elizabeth of Texico, Illinois; children, Michael J. Miller of Champaign, Illinois, Gary R. Miller of Mount Vernon, and Jean A. Ader and husband, Bill of Saint Louis; grandchildren, Scott Miller (Cassandra) of Monee, Illinois, Helen Miller (Matt Harring) of Joliet, Illinois; great-grandchildren, Kathryn Miller, Kieran Miller, and her namesake, Jane Martha Harring.
Martha was preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Glen Wilson, Wayne Wilson, Calvin "Bill" Wilson, Jerry Wilson, and Neil Wilson; and sisters, Lula Eller and Jean Shehorn.
Unlike many women of the era, Martha continued to work at Illinois Bell for decades after marriage and the births of her children, yet she cooked supper for her family every evening. Martha was known for making wonderful pies and was expected to bring several pies to church functions and family events. Martha was a religious woman and did not fear death. She was loved and will be dearly missed by all who knew her.
A Visitation will be held Sunday, July 15, 2018 from 5:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M. at Hughey Funeral Home in Mount Vernon. A Funeral Service will be held Monday, July 16, 2018 at 1:00 P.M. at Hughey Funeral Home. Interment will follow at Mount Vernon Memorial Gardens in Woodlawn, Illinois. Memorials may be made to the Central Christian Church.
