Marilyn Rae Hubbell, 77, of Mount Vernon, Illinois, passed away at 11:27 A.M. at Wabash Christian Retirement Center in Carmi, Illinois on March 10, 2018. She was born January 26, 1941 in Saint Louis, Missouri to Malford William and Winifred Charity (Morgan) Morris, Sr. Marilyn married Billie Hubbell on August 11, 1962 at Trinity United Methodist Church in Granite City, Illinois. They were blessed with 55 years of marriage.
In addition to her husband, Marilyn is survived by her sons, Dwaine Hubbell and wife, Roberta of Golden Gate, Illinois and Timothy Hubbell of Mount Vernon, Illinois; daughters, Deborah Hodson of Terre Haute, Indiana and Suzanne Doggett and husband, William of Mill Shoals, Illinois; grandchildren, Rebekah Hubbell of Fairfield, Illinois, Thomas Hubbell of Fairfield, Illinois, Jacob Exline and wife, Joli of Charleston, South Carolina, Morgan Doggett of Washington, D.C., Nicholas Hodson of Terre Haute, Indiana, and Alissa Baldwin and husband, Jacob of Austin, Texas; great-grandchildren, Kenley Baldwin and Holland Baldwin, both of Austin, Texas; brother, Malford Morris and wife, Karen of Saint Louis, Missouri; sister-in-law, Beverely Hubbell of Mobile, Alabama; and a number of cousins.
Marilyn was preceded in death by her parents and son, Garrett Daniel Hubbell.
Marilyn grew up in Granite City, Illinois and enjoyed being a seamstress for a number of years. She attended Eastern Illinois University obtaining a bachelor’s degree of art. Marilyn was a member of Adat Ariel Messianic Congregation in Marion, Illinois, a lifelong member of the Girl Scouts, and a member of Calhoun County’s Order of the Eastern Star Chapter 990. She spent 30 years doing missionary work and 7 years at Wayne County Press, writing her own column. She was a registered nurse for 59 years, specializing in faith community/parish nursing, obstetrics, and the intensive care unit. She was a dearly loved member of the community and will be missed by all who knew her.
A Visitation will be held Monday, March 12, 2018 from 5:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M. at Boyd Christian Church in Boyd, Illinois. A Funeral Service will follow at 7:00 P.M. with Rabbi Moshe Laurie and Pastor Jeff Van Mater officiating. Interment will be held Tuesday, March 13, 2018 at Highland Memorial Gardens in Jackson, Tennessee. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in Marilyn’s honor to the Hubbell family, in care of Billie Hubbell. They will be dispersed to a charity at a later date.
