James “Lynn” Howerton, 76, passed away at 3:15 P.M. January 11, 2019 at his residence in Mount Vernon, Illinois.
Lynn was born Nov. 12, 1942 to James Oliver (J.O.) & Virginia P (Pillow) Howerton.
He was first married to Brenda Fitzjerrells in 1966, unto this union 2 daughters were born.
Dec 31, 1983 He married Donna J. (Kennedy) Strain, she brought 3 sons & 2 daughters into the family.
In addition to his wife, Donna, Lynn is survived by daughters Lori Kiley of Bloomington, IL, Tracy Young & husband Stephen of Cypress, TX, Bonnie Webb & husband Craig of McLeansboro, IL, Kathy Ellis & husband Billy of Mt Vernon, IL
Sons, Karl Strain & wife Windy of Woodlawn, IL, Steven Strain & wife Doni of Opdyke, IL
Grandchildren, Lucas Webb, Cody Ellis, Hunter Kiley, Jacob Ellis, Jillian Foster, Cindel Polhemus, Amanda Latham, Emily Strain, Carley Strain, Jessie Rae Strain, Taylor Young & Jordyn Young.
13 Great-Grandchildren & several nieces & nephews.

Preceded in death by parents, James Oliver ( J.O.) Howerton, Virginia Howerton & Grace Howerton & sister Annetta Marquis. Step-son James D Strain Jr, Mother-in-law Helen Kennedy Neal.
Besides being a loving family man Lynn was an avid horseman. He enjoyed trail riding & camping with wife Donna , family & friends. After retirement, Lynn & Donna sold their home to become fulltime RV’ers traveling, campground hosting, meeting people & making friends everywhere they went.
In honor of Lynn’s wishes no public services will be held. Memorials in his memory may be made to the American Cancer Society and will be accepted at Hughey Funeral Home.
