Linda Kay Shaw, 78, of Mount Vernon, Illinois passed away at 7:50 A.M. November 2, 2018 at her residence. She was born July 28, 1940 in Chicago, Illinois to the late Dan and Ginger (Lindsey) Brown. Kay married Dr. Gary D. Shaw on November 26, 1959 in Herrin, Illinois. They were blessed with 36 years of marriage before he preceded her in death on April 24, 1996.
Kay is survived by her children, Cara Junkins of Saint Louis, Missouri and James “Jamie” Shaw and wife, Marlena of Hattiesburg, Mississippi; granddaughter, Addison Shaw; sister, Sherry Watson of Peoria, Illinois; and nieces, Lorena and Melanie.
Kay worked as a substitute teacher at area schools and later a math teacher at Rend Lake College. She retired in May 2018 after 15 years. Kay also served as the Area Site Coordinator for Rend Lake College. She was a Police and Fire Commissioner Board Member. Her greatest joy was spending time with her family. Kay was dearly loved and will be missed by all who knew her.
A Visitation will be held Wednesday, November 7, 2018 from 5:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M. at Hughey Funeral Home in Mount Vernon, Illinois. Inurnment will be held Thursday, November 8, 2018 at 10:00 A.M. at Maplewood Cemetery in Marion, Illinois with Mr. Marty Mills officiating. Memorials may be made in Linda’s honor to the Good Samaritan Hospital Auxiliary.
