Joshua Alan Melton, 20, of Bonnie, Illinois passed away at 1:40 P.M. January 8, 2019 at Franklin County Hospital in Benton, Illinois. He was born July 3, 1998 in Mount Vernon, Illinois to Michael Alan "Mike" and Stephanie Jo (Moore) Melton.
In addition to his parents, Joshua is survived by his siblings, Daniel Jay Melton of Bonnie and Caitlyn Settle and husband, Tim of Mount Vernon; paternal grandmother, Patsy Chelf of McLeansboro; fiancè, Cassi Gunter of West Frankfort; uncles, Dale Moore and wife, Brenda of Mount Vernon, Anthony Melton and wife, Ginger of Kell, and Mike Moore of Mount Vernon; aunts, Marilyn Harris and husband, Larry of Carrier Mills, Debbie Sanders of Mount Vernon, Angie Chelf-Pierce of Belleville, Pamela Mullins and husband, Jeff of Mount Vernon, and Katrena Moore of Mount Vernon; and several cousins and extended family.
Joshua was preceded in death by his infant child; maternal grandparents, Francis “Beaver” and Irene Moore; paternal grandfather, Gary Melton; uncle, Gary Moore; maternal great-grandmother, Lillie Buttrum; and paternal great-grandparents, Ethel and Ted Melton and Opal and Lewis Morgan.
Joshua worked at Continental Tire in Mount Vernon. He was a member of Lebanon Missionary Baptist Church, the UKC Hunting Retriever Club, Waltonville Trapshooting Club, Crappie Masters, Ducks Unlimited, and a Brother of the Samurai Riders MC. In high school, Joshua was very involved in the Mount Vernon FFA and the Bass Club. He also played multiple sports during high school. Joshua was an avid fisherman and hunter, but most of all, he loved spending time with his family and friends. He was dearly loved and will be missed by all who knew him.
A Visitation will be held Friday, January 11, 2019 from 4:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. at Hughey Funeral Home in Mount Vernon, Illinois. There will be a Walk Thru at 7:30 P.M. by the Jefferson County Rural Fire Department. A Funeral Service will be held Saturday, January 12, 2019 at 1:00 P.M. at Hughey Funeral Home with Reverend Gary Davenport officiating. Interment will follow at Kirk Cemetery in Ina, Illinois. Memorials may be made in Joshua’s honor to Lebanon Missionary Baptist Church Youth Group or for those who wish, memorials may be made to Stephanie Melton for the family to be able to make donations to several of Josh’s favorite charities.
