Joseph Charles Krivi, Jr. was born July 7, 1949 to Joseph Charles Krivi, Sr. and Mary Helen Stercho Krivi at Saint Elizabeth’s Hospital in Granite City, Illinois.
Joseph is survived by his sisters, Carol S. Mieger of Frisco, Texas and Dr. Mary Ann Zipprich of Albuquerque, New Mexico; his son, Justin Julian Krivi of Mount Vernon, Illinois; and grandchildren, Lilliah Adair and Justin Julian Krivi.
Joe attended grade school at Sacred Heart School in Granite City and graduated high school from East Alton-Wood River High School in June of 1967. He entered the United States Navy shortly thereafter and began a course of study in nuclear powered submarines. His interest shifted to Underwater Demolition Training, the precursor to the Navy SEALS, during the Vietnam War era.
Upon release from military service, Joe received an Associate’s Degree in Marine Biology from UC Santa Barbara and later a Bachelor’s Degree from SIU Carbondale. He once found employment as a diver, doing deep dives checking oil lines off the Louisiana coast. He was a journeyman electrician and lineman with Illinois Power Company and worked up the ranks to supervision in Mount Vernon.
Joe was a longtime resident and had recently retired from the Big Muddy Correctional Facility in Ina, Illinois. He loved the game of golf and his friends at Indian Hills Golf Course. He enjoyed travel and his timeshare friends from all over the world.
Joe passed away February 4, 2018 from complications following bypass surgery at SSM Health Good Samaritan Hospital in Mount Vernon, Illinois.
A Catholic Memorial Service will be held at 4:00 P.M. Thursday, February 8, 2018 at Hughey Funeral Home in Mount Vernon, Illinois with Father John Iffert officiating. A Greeting of Family and Friends will be held following the memorial service from 5:00 to 7:00 P.M. Inurnment will take place at Trinity Cemetery in Mount Olive, Illinois at a later date. Memorial contributions may be given to the Lifeboat Alliance Shelter in Mount Vernon, Illinois.
