Joan B. Black, 86, of Mount Vernon, Illinois passed away at 8:30 P.M. September 30, 2018 at her residence in Mount Vernon, Illinois. She was born on November 29, 1931 in Chicago Heights, Illinois to the late Cyril Smith and Essie (Atchison) Smith. She married Ray Black on June 5, 1948. They were blessed with 70 years of marriage until she preceded him in death.
In addition to her husband, Joan is survived by her sons, Dan Black and wife, Dotti of Mount Vernon, Illinois, Darrell Black and wife, Patricia of Salida, Colorado; daughter, Connie Byerly and husband Tom of Springfield, Illinois; six grandchildren, Brittany Collier and husband, Joseph, Andrew Black and wife Becca, Rhiannon Young and husband Jay, Zackray Black, Matthew Byerly and wife, Julia, and Eric Byerly and wife, Angela.; and seven great granchildren.
Joan was preceded in death by her parents; and step father, Lester Hayes.
Joan was a longtime member of the Central Christian Church in Mount Vernon, Illinois. She previously worked at the Mount Vernon Shoe Factory. Joan loved her family dearly, especially her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She will be missed dearly by all who knew her.
Visitation: Wednesday, October 3, 2018 from 11:00 A.M. until 1:30 P.M. at Hughey Funeral Home in Mount Vernon, Illinois. Funeral Service: 1:30 P.M.
