Jerry L McCracken

January 27, 1936 ~ June 30, 2019 (age 83)

Jerry Lee McCracken, 83, of Mount Vernon, Illinois passed away at 11:27 A.M. June 30, 2019 at his residence. He was born January 27, 1936 in East St. Louis, Illinois to the late Joseph and Hazel Alberta (Lively) McCracken. Jerry married Janice “Jan” Marie Jones on August 11, 1956 in East St. Louis. They were blessed with nearly 63 years of marriage.

In addition to his wife, Jerry is survived by his son, Daniel Lee McCracken of Mount Vernon, Illinois; daughter, Pam Weems and fiancé, Kim Bonifacius of Woodlawn, Illinois; grandchildren, Cory Weems and Jessica, Melisa Weems and Joey, and Jessie McCracken; great-grandchildren, Gage, Hailey, and Hunter; sister, Betty Delores Williamson of O’Fallon, Illinois; brother-in-law, Gene Olsson of Myrtle Beach, South Carolina; several nieces and nephews; and several great-nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, Jerry was preceded in death by his siblings, Joe McCracken, Tommy McCracken, and Jeanie Olsson; and parents-in-law, Howard and Lillian (Nash) Jones.

Jerry and Tom McCracken owned a dairy delivery business and The Milky Way Store in the Metro Area. He later worked as the store manager and later became the regional manager for Goodyear Tire and Rubber Company, where he was the recipient of the Good Year Spirit Award. After retiring, Jerry worked at the Jefferson County Treasurer office. He was a founder of Senior Saint and very active in the Senior Saints Committee. He was awarded Senior Saint. Jerry was an active member of Pleasant Hill Baptist Church and served in many church activities. He was also a past President in the Jefferson County Chamber of Commerce.

A Visitation will be held on Sunday, July 14, 2019 from 12:00 P.M. to 2:00 P.M. ­­­­­­­­­­­­­­at ­­­­­­­­­­­­­­­Hughey Funeral Home in Mount Vernon, Illinois. A Funeral Service will begin at 2:00 P.M. with Reverend Jason Webb officiating. Interment will follow at Pleasant Hill in Mount Vernon, Illinois. Memorials may be made to the Pleasant Hill Baptist Church or the American Heart Association.
