Jerry L. Bodine “Boogie”, 82, of Mount Vernon, died at 9:32 P.M. Saturday, October 7, 2017 at his daughter’s home in Mount Vernon.
Jerry was born May 3, 1935 in Jefferson County, Illinois, the son of Luther Lynn and Dollie Alice (Mathus) Bodine. He was a retired roofer and a farmer and had served our country in the US Army during the Korean Conflict.
Jerry is survived by his children, Wesley N. Bodine and wife, Joy, Denise Huggins and husband, Charles, Deborah Smith and husband, Mark, and Cindy Schmidt and husband, David, all of Mount Vernon; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren; sister, Dorothy “Dottie” Lampp and husband, Wesley of Mount Vernon; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; son, Roy Allen Bodine; brothers, Harry Bodine, Robert Bodine, and Harvey Bodine; sisters, Betty Ilbery and Ruth Ann Brooks; infant sister, Christine; and grandson, Robert McGuire.
Jerry was a lifetime member of the VFW and he was an avid hunter and fisherman.
Visitation will be held Tuesday, October 10, 2017 from 5:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. at Hughey Funeral Home in Mount Vernon. Graveside services will be held Wednesday, October 11, 2017 at 11:00 A.M. at South Hickory Hill Cemetery in Jefferson County. Burial will follow the services. Military rites will be conducted at graveside by members of American Legion Post 141 of Mt. Vernon.
Memorial contributions in Jerry’s memory can be made to the American Legion Post #141 of Mount Vernon and SSM Health at Home Hospice and will be accepted at the Hughey Funeral Home in Mount Vernon.
