James "Jim" Robert Carnahan, 76, of Buckner, Illinois passed away at 7:43 P.M. October 14, 2019 at Franklin Hospital in Benton, Illinois. He was born December 5, 1942 in Mount Vernon, Illinois to the late John Leonard Carnahan and Lena (Spann) Carnahan. Jim married Sharon (Eubanks) Carnahan on July 20, 1963 at the Second Baptist Church in Mount Vernon. They were blessed with 56 years of marriage.
In addition to his beloved wife, Jim is survived by his son, James Matthew and wife, Melanie of Benton, Illinois; daughters, Celeste Higgins and husband, Ted of Benton, Illinois and Christy Romeo and husband, William of Carterville, Illinois; grandchildren, Madison, Emily, Katelin, Lena Mae, and Nathanael; great-granddaughter, Riley Marie; sister, Barbara Hart and husband, Samuel of Mount Vernon, Illinois; nephew, Rodney Hart and wife, Carrie of Colorado Springs, Colorado; and several cousins.
In addition to his parents, Jim preceded in death by his nephew, Bradley Hart; sister, Lula Mae; and infant grandson, Thomas.
Jim proudly served his country in the United States Navy. He first worked at the Eddy Potash Company as a Maintenance Forman in Carlsbad, New Mexico. Jim also worked as an assistant Miner manager for Old Ben Coal Company. He was later the owner and operator of his own truck company until he retired. Jim was a member of the American Legion Post #7 in Carlsbad, New Mexico.
A Visitation will be held from 11:00 A.M. to 1:00 P.M. Friday, October 18, 2019 at Hughey Funeral Home in Mount Vernon, Illinois. A Funeral Service will begin at 1:00 P.M. with Pastor Sammy Simmons officiating. Interment will follow at Mitchell Cemetery in Sesser, Illinois with Full Military Rites conducted by the American Legion Post #141. Memorials may be made to the the ALS Foundation.
