James Rodney Bigley, Sr., 67, of Bluford, Illinois passed away at 6:45 A.M. September 28, 2019 at Saint Louis University Hospital in Saint Louis, Missouri. He was born August 10, 1952 in Jefferson County, Illinois to the late Thomas Earl and Ira Mae (Ellis) Bigley. He married Charlene S. McKean on December 30, 1972 in Bluford, Illinois at Mount Olive.
In addition to his wife of forty-six years, James is survived by his children, Rebecca Waldrop and spouse, Jennifer of Mount Vernon, Illinois, James Bigley, Jr. and wife, Mary of Laquey, Missouri, David Bigley and wife, Savannah of Bluford, Illinois, Elisabeth Helmuth and husband, Jesse of Laquey, Missouri, Daniel Lee Bigley and wife, Kelli of Fairfield, Illinois, and Hannah Bigley of Bluford, Illinois; thirteen grandchildren; one great-grandson; one sister; four brothers; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, James was preceded in death by his mother-in-law, Verna Bloodworth; grandsons, Scooby Doo Bigley and James Wayne “J.J.” Bigley; and brothers, Ronnie, Kenny, and Ricky Bigley.
James proudly served in the United States Army for twenty-two years. He was a member of New Life Baptist Church in Bluford, Illinois. James loved to fish and to go to sporting games with his grandkids. He was a loving husband, father, and grandfather and will be dearly missed by all who knew him.
A Visitation will be held Wednesday, October 2, 2019 from 5:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. at Hughey Funeral Home in Mount Vernon, Illinois. A Funeral Service will be held Thursday, October 3, 2019 at 1:00 P.M. at Hughey Funeral Home in Mount Vernon, Illinois with Reverend Rodney Gass officiating. Full Military Rites with be conducted at the cemetery. Interment will follow at Harmony Cemetery in Jefferson, County. Memorials may be made to the family in care of Charlene Bigley.
