Harry E. McGuire, 93, of Mount Vernon, Illinois passed away at 11:25 P.M. February 10, 2018 at Deaconess Gateway Hospital in Evansville, Indiana. He was born September 24, 1924 in Mount Vernon, Illinois to Leonard E. and Olinda (Shannon) McGuire. He married Doris E. Price in Mount Vernon, Illinois on February 28, 1943 and she preceded him in death on April 29, 2005.

Harry is survived by his son, Randy McGuire and wife, Rhonda of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma; eight grandchildren, Tracy Rossetti, Scott McGuire, Kristi Bitterman, J.R. McGuire, Julie Parr, Ashley Brandt, Shannon Garrett, and Brandon McGuire; several great-grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews; and extended son-in-law, Darrel Buckles.

Mr. McGuire was preceded in death by his parents; wife; son, Edward McGuire; brother and sister-in-law, Vernon and Dorotha McGuire; sister and brother-in-law, Mildred and Vilbert Heintz; daughter-in-law, Karen Buckles.

Harry’s family owned and operated a gas station in Mount Vernon and drove a grocery truck. Later, he started working for his father in the local car shops. He was proud of his father and his work ethic which carried on into Harry’s work as a welder at Taylor Brothers which repaired mine equipment. He then was hired by Arch Mine Corporation at the Captain Mine in Cutler, Illinois and helped build the largest shovel in the world, 20 stories tall. He Doris and Randy moved to Steelville for the mine work. At one point in his life, he owned and operated Harry’s Upholstery Shop on Perkins Avenue in Mount Vernon. He moved back to Mount Vernon after retiring from the mine. He held memberships with the Steeleville, Illinois Masonic Lodge #1392 and Wesley United Methodist Church in Mount Vernon, Illinois. He was known as the man that could fix anything, was dearly loved, and will be missed by all who knew him. He loved his entire family and always said, he married into the sweetest family in the world, the Prices.

Visitation: 5:00 to 8:00 P.M. Thursday, February 15, 2018 at Hughey Funeral Home in Mount Vernon, Illinois. Funeral Service: 10:00 A.M. Friday, February 16, 2018 at Wesley United Methodist Church in Mount Vernon, Illinois with Pastor Phil Poe officiating.  Interment: Mount Vernon Memorial Gardens in Woodlawn, Illinois.
