Gary D. Graham, 73, was born February 28th, 1946, and was suddenly taken from the earthly world on September 1, 2019, in Benton, Illinois.
Gary was a retired high school math teacher. He taught at Mount Vernon Township High School for 33 years, where he enjoyed supporting the basketball team by cheering on the Rams at home games. Basketball was always a favorite sport of Gary’s, along with Cardinals baseball, but his game of choice to play was always golf.
Since he was an avid golfer, Gary was a member of Indian Hills Golf Course for more than 40 years and would spend most of his retirement days on the course with a group of his buddies who called him “Captain.” He also became a member of Benton Elks Lodge 1234 shortly after moving to Benton.
Gary loved to travel, had a soft spot for all animals, enjoyed the occasional glass of wine, liked to rave about his wife’s cooking, and was proud of his daughter.
Gary is survived by his wife, Mary Jane Graham; daughter, Brittanie Graham; brother, Jarrell Graham and wife, Margaret; nieces, Julie Graham and Beth Moore; stepsons, Travis Tolka and wife, Kiev and Cory Tolka and wife, Leslie; stepdaughter, Jayna Tolka; and several grandchildren.
Gary was preceded in death by his parents, Lester and Gladys Graham; sister, Janet Elaine Graham; and brothers, Lloyd Graham and Robert Graham.
A Celebration of Life will be held Wednesday, September 11, 2019 from 4:00 P.M. to 6:00 P.M. at the Indian Hills Golf Course Clubhouse in Mount Vernon, Illinois. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to an animal shelter of your choosing.
