Gale Monroe, 82, of Evansville, Indiana, formerly of Mount Vernon, Illinois passed away at 6:50 A.M. August 22, 2018 at Deaconess Gateway Hospital in Newburgh, Indiana with his family and loved ones by his side. He was born June 19, 1936 in Hamilton County, Illinois to the late James and Ethel (McCormick) Monroe. Gale married Jackie (Kennedy) Monroe on December 30, 1971 in Mount Vernon. They were blessed with 47 years of marriage.
In addition to his wife, Gale is survived by his children, Brian Monroe and wife, Kimber of Saint Louis, Missouri and Gayla Woodward and Ed Zausch of Newburgh, Indiana; grandchildren, Gregory Woodward, Hank Woodward, and Elijah Woodward, all of Newburgh, Indiana, and Lance Monroe, Paige Monroe, and Gwen Monroe, all of Saint Louis, Missouri; and cousins, Dorothy and Gary Roesch, Alan and Rhonda Monroe, Charlene Topel, Janeta Sutton, Kay and Dan Jones, and Mary Ellen and Roger Sanders.
In addition to his parents, Gale was preceded in death by his son-in-law, Robert Woodward, Jr.
Gale was the Vice President of N.A.I.L. Insurance Company in Lancaster, Pennsylvania from 1966-1969. He founded the First Security Insurance Company in 1980 and served as the CEO and President. From 1973-2008, Gale worked as the owner and operator of Economy Motors. He was a member of the Mount Vernon Elks and attended New Hope Webb Missionary Baptist Church. Gale’s greatest joy was spending time with his family. He was dearly loved and will be missed by all who knew him.
A Visitation will be held Saturday, August 25, 2018 from 11:00 A.M. to 1:00 P.M. at Newell Funeral Home 601 South 42nd Street Mount Vernon, Illinois. A Funeral Service will follow at 1:00 P.M. with Reverend Richard McCormick officiating. Interment will follow at Oakwood Cemetery in Mount Vernon, Illinois. Memorials may be made in Gale’s honor to the Hubbard House at Orlando Regional Medical Trauma Center.
