Fredrick “Fred” Reeker, 84, of Mt. Vernon, Illinois died at 1:29 P.M. Saturday August 31, 2019 at SSM Health Good Samaritan Hospital in Mount Vernon, Illinois. Fred was born September 22, 1934 in Champaign, Illinois the son of the late Fredrick “Mac” and Frieda (Bialeschki) Reeker. On June 4, 1954 he married Shirley Hayes and she survives in Mount Vernon.
In addition to his wife Shirley, he is survived by his children, Lynn Upton and husband, David of Mount Vernon, Lisa Meador and husband, David of Mount Vernon, and Alan Reeker and wife, Tammy of Mount Vernon; seven grandchildren, Heather Pace and husband, Jason, Kyle Upton and wife, Brittany, Aaron Reeker and wife, Jennifer, Amber Schierbaum and husband, Dustin, Austin Reeker and wife, Kari, Avery Reeker and wife, Rebecca, and Colten Meador; nine great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Dorothy Latham of Rockford, Illinois and Beverly Hughes of O’Fallon, Illinois.
In addition to his parents, Fred was preceded in death by two brothers-in-law, Jim Hayes and Larry Flota and a sister-in-law, Judy Hayes.
Fred was a member at the Otterbein United Methodist Church in Bluford. He was raised a Lutheran, but had been involved in the Methodist church for many years. At Otterbein, he served in many positions, including church treasurer, Sunday School teacher, and Sunday School Superintendent. Fred worked at Dowzer Electric in Mount Vernon for over 42 years, and over 20 years at Mt. Vernon Electric. Fred took great pride and pleasure in restoring International Farmall tractors with his son, Alan. His greatest treasure though was spending time with his loving family, he especially enjoyed being involved in his grandchildren’s lives and attending their sports activities. Fred was greatly loved and will be dearly missed by all who knew him.
A Visitation will be held from 5:00 to 8:00 P.M. Tuesday, September 3, 2019 at Wesley United Methodist Church in Mount Vernon, Illinois. A Funeral Service will be held at 10:30 A.M Wednesday, September 4, 2019 at Wesley United Methodist Church in Mount Vernon with Reverend Jim Peak and Reverend Randy Hayes officiating. Interment will follow at Oakdale Cemetery north of Bluford. Memorials, in Fred’s loving memory, may be made to Otterbein United Methodist Church or Wesley United Methodist Church and will be accepted at Hughey Funeral Home at anytime.
