Elberta P (Spangler) Piper

December 11, 1925 ~ November 29, 2018 (age 92)

Elberta P. Piper, 92, of Mount Vernon, Illinois, formerly of Woodlawn, Illinois, was called home by her Lord at 8:00 P.M. November 29, 2018 at White Oak Rehabilitation and Health Care Center in Mount Vernon. She was born December 11, 1925 in Woodlawn, Illinois to the late Arthur L. and Georgia M. (Peterson) Spangler. Elberta married Seaton Piper on August 31, 1946 in Mount Vernon, Illinois. They were blessed with 38 years of marriage before he preceded her in death on December 28, 1984.

Elberta is survived by her children, Alfred E. “Al” Piper and wife, Jackie of Spokane, Washington, Barbara Czerniejewski and husband, Leonard of Ashley, Illinois, Donald Lee “Don” Piper and wife, Rhonda of Mount Vernon, Joe A. Piper of Mount Vernon, Garry Ray Piper and wife, Cheryl of Mount Vernon, and Lu Ellen Piper of Mount Vernon; grandchildren, Jeff Piper, Amy Lou Baird, Steven Piper, Fredrick Piper, Kendra Clayton and husband, Corey, Gawain Piper and wife, Megan, Josh Czerniejewski and wife, Erin, Rachel Kidd, Shaun Thompson, Scottie Thompson and wife, Tracy, and Brandy Sharp and husband, Sean; great-grandchildren, Trent, Brittany, Derek, Amber, Alyssa, Haley, Tristen, Trey, Kelsea, Lilly, Rebecka, Kadence, and Loralie; twelve great-great-grandchildren; sister, LaVern Loyd of Williamsville, Illinois; and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents and husband, Elberta was preceded in death by her brother, Leroy Spangler; and granddaughter, Jenifer Czerniejewski.

Elberta enjoyed tending to her plants and flowers. Most of all, Elberta loved her family. She will be dearly missed by all who knew her.

A Visitation will be held Monday, December 3, 2018 from 5:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M. at Hughey Funeral Home in Mount Vernon, Illinois. A Graveside Service will be held Tuesday, December 4, 2018 at 1:00 P.M. at Mount Catherine Cemetery in Woodlawn, Illinois with Reverend Terry McAlexander officiating.  Interment will follow. Memorials may be made in Elberta’s honor to the Disabled American Veterans.
