Donnie G. Wilkey, 65, of Belle Rive, Illinois passed away at 4:00 P.M. August 22, 2018 at SSM Health Good Samaritan Hospital in Mount Vernon, Illinois. He was born May 23, 1953 in Fort Rucker Alabama to Donald E. and Barbara Jean (Bolen) Wilkey. Donnie married Cherlyn (Wallace) Wilkey on December 14, 1973 at the Belle Rive Missionary Baptist Church. They were blessed with nearly 45 years of marriage.
In addition to his wife, Donnie is survived by his mother, Barbara Wilkey of Belle Rive, Illinois; children, Sean Wilkey and wife, Aleasha of Dix, Illinois and Natasha Bancroft and husband, Connie of Mount Vernon, Illinois; granddaughters, Mikaela Wilkey, Mikanda, Wilkey, and Hannah Bancroft; sister, Madonna Karcher and husband, Alan of Jerseyville, Illinois; uncle, who he thought of as more like a brother, Jack Wilkey and wife, Ronnie of Franklin, Tennessee; uncle, Dwight Bolen and wife, Elaine of Merlin, Oregan; aunts, Beverly Kelly of Mount Vernon, Illinois and Iris Richards and husband, Paul of Belle Rive, Illinois; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Donnie was preceded in death by his father, Donald Wilkey.
Donnie worked as a coal miner for Eads Coal Mining and Arch Mineral. He also owned and operated Wilkey’s Café. Donnie was the former mayor of Belle Rive and enjoyed fishing and quail hunting in his spare time. Donnie was a member of Belle Rive Christian Church. His greatest joy was spending time with his family, especially his granddaughters. Donnie was dearly loved and will be missed by all who knew him.
A Visitation will be held Sunday, August 26, 2018 from 5:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. at Hughey Funeral Home in Mount Vernon, Illinois. A Funeral Service will be held Monday, August 27, 2018 at 11:00 A.M. at Hughey Funeral Home with Reverend Keith Neal officiating. Interment will follow at Flint-Belle Rive Cemetery in Belle Rive, Illinois. Memorials may be made in Donnie’s honor to Opdyke Missionary Baptist Church.
