Corporal Joshua Ray Hurst, 28, of Mount Vernon, Illinois passed away September 11, 2018 in Saint Louis, Missouri. He was born January 23, 1990 in Bowling Green, Kentucky to Tim and Karen (Ray) Hurst.
In addition to his parents, Josh is survived by his siblings, Lucas Hurst and significant other, Amanda Roever of Belleville, Illinois, Amanda Cox and husband, Jason of Oakland City, Indiana, Lindsay Bodine and husband, Jordan of Mount Vernon, Illinois, and Elizabeth Hurst of Waldorf, Maryland; nephews, Jake Cox and Eli Bodine; godson, Harper Shoemaker of Mount Vernon, Illinois; grandparents, Louis Ray of Maryville, Illinois and Freda Hurst of Naples, Florida; and a host of many aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends.
Josh was preceded in death by his grandparents, Claude Hurst and Jann Ray.
Josh proudly served his country in the United States National Guard. He was a member of Saint Mary Immaculate Conception Catholic Church and the Knights of Columbus. Josh worked for the Amazon Distribution Center in Edwardsville, Illinois. Josh was an avid fan of UK Basketball, the Saint Louis Cardinals, Saint Louis Blues, and Batman. He will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved him.
A Visitation will be held Friday, September 14, 2018 from 4:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M. at Hughey Funeral Home in Mount Vernon, Illinois. A Biblical Wake will follow at 7:00 P.M. A Funeral Mass will be held Saturday, September 15, 2018 at 10:00 A.M. at Saint Mary Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Mount Vernon, Illinois with Father John Iffert officiating. Full Military Honors will be conducted by the American Legion Post #141. Memorials may be made in Josh’s honor to a college fund for his nephews, in care of Karen Hurst.
