Coy Lee Wells was born April 30, 1935 in Simpson, Illinois, the youngest child of George and Eunice Street Wells. He died August 23, 2018, at SSM Health Good Samaritan Hospital in Mt. Vernon, Illinois. On May 29, 1970 he married Susan Heaton Farris in Vienna, Illinois.
Coy was a hard worker; after his high school graduation, he like many Southern Illinois young men went “up north” to find work in factories. That work ethic continued throughout his life, as he worked for General Tire, Inland Steel Coal, a potash mine in New Mexico, ending his career as a volunteer driver taking veterans to VA facilities for medical treatment. He was an army veteran. He graduated from Vienna High School with the class of 1954.
He is survived by his wife; son Russ Farris (Kirsten) and their daughters Cora and Grace of Venice, Florida; daughter Sara Farris of Houston; daughter Lynn Wells of Normal, Illinois; and son Neal Wells of Mt. Vernon and his daughter Laney who was the joy of Coy's life. He is also survived by special niece Joan Faulkner-Owen (Richard); brothers Hayward and George (Carmen). Also brother- and sister-in-law Frederick and Betty Heaton, and brother-in-law Eric Kennedy, and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, a sister Alma Rita Parmele, and brothers Lindel and John “Jay” Wells; sisters-in-law, Kathleen Wells, Melba Wells, and Ann Heaton Kennedy. He will be missed by his family, many friends, and by his afternoon coffee drinking buddies at McDonalds.
At Coy's request there will be no visitation or services. Burial will be at New Burnside Cemetery at a later date. Memorials may be made to Gilead Cemetery, 560 Gum Springs Rd, Simpson, IL, or to a charity of the donor’s choice.
