Carolyn “Joe Ann” Chambliss, 85, of Mount Vernon, Illinois, passed away at 9:17 P.M. November 6, 2018 with her family by her side. She was born May 7, 1933 to the late Grover Lee and Marjorie (Parmley) Wininger in Mount Vernon. Joe Ann married Kenneth Chambliss on December 24, 1952 in Mount Vernon. They were blessed with nearly 66 years of marriage.
In addition to her husband, Joe Ann is survived by her daughter, Carol Lynn Hart and husband, Rodney Allen of Colorado Springs, Colorado; granddaughter, Kennedy Nicole Hairr and husband, Phillip of Arizona; nephew, David Lee Wininger and wife, Sarah of Mount Vernon, Illinois; and several great-nephews and great-nieces.
Joe Ann was preceded in death by her parents; one brother; and one sister.
Joe Ann worked at the Southside Drug Store in Mount Vernon. She later became a stay-at-home mom. Once her daughter was grown, Joe Ann started working at the Mount Vernon Rescue Mission. She loved to help people in any way she could. Joe Ann was a faithful member of the Faith Church of the Nazarene since 1972. She taught Sunday school there for over 30 years. Joe Ann was also a member of the Crossroads Hospital Auxiliary for 26 years. Her greatest joy was spending time with her family. Joe Ann was dearly loved and will be missed by all who knew her.
A Funeral Service will be held Sunday, November 11, 2018 at 2:00 P.M. at Newell Funeral Home 601 South 42nd Street Mount Vernon, Illinois with Reverend Ed Sprinkle officiating. Friends may call from 12:00 P.M. to 2:00 P.M. Interment will follow at Kirk Cemetery in Ina, Illinois. Memorials may be made in Joe Ann’s honor to the Faith Church of the Nazarene.
