Billy Bob Palmer, 92, of Mount Vernon, Illinois passed away at 2:20 P.M. October 6, 2019 at Mount Vernon Countryside Manor in Mount Vernon. He was born November 4, 1926 in Mount Vernon to the late Louie and Vivian (McKitrick) Palmer. He married Barbara Jean Farmer on July 30, 1949 in Mount Vernon, Illinois and she survives in Mount Vernon.
In addition to his beloved wife of seventy years, Billy Bob is survived by his two sons, Reif Palmer and wife, Stacey and Brent Palmer and wife, Stephanie, all of Mount Vernon; two granddaughters, ReAnne May and wife, McKenzie of Evansville, Indiana and Sara Peas and husband, Ryan of Mount Vernon; and several nieces.
In addtition to his parents, Mr. Palmer was preceded in death by his brother, Elwood Palmer who was killed in World War II on Guadalcanal in the Pacific.
Billy Bob proudly served his country in the United States Army in World War II and worked as a Switchman for the Illinois Central Railroad. He was a lifetime member of the Turner Roehm AMVETS Post #4, where he served as Post Commander and was also a lifetime member of the MountVernon American Legion Post #141. He was an avid Saint Louis Cardinals fan, thoroughly enjoyed caring for his yard, and loved spending time with his family.
A Visitation will be held from 10:00 A.M. to 12:00 P.M. Wednesday, October 9, 2019 at Hughey Funeral Home in Mount Vernon, Illinos. A Graveside Service will be held 12:30 P.M. at Bethel Memorial Cemetery with Chaplain Ernie Collins officiating. Members of the Mount Vernon American Legion Post #141 will conduct Full Military Honors at the Cemetery. Interment will follow. Memorials may be made to the Turner Roehm AMVETS Post #4 or the Mount Vernon American Legion Post #141.
