Betty Jean DeJournett Catron
Betty Jean Catron, 88, of Bluford, Illinois died at 11:08 A.M. Friday September 27, 2019 at Countryside Manor in Mount Vernon, Illinois.
Mrs. Catron was born on November 21, 1930 in Jefferson County, Illinois to Elva DeJournett and Edith (Crites) DeJournett. She married Glen Alexander Catron on November 25, 1948 at the Salem Freewill Baptist Church. They were blessed with nearly seventy-one years of marriage.
Betty graduated from Southern Illinois University Carbondale in 1989 with a Bachelor in Science. She worked and retired from Murray Center in Centralia for over twenty years. She was a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution. Betty enjoyed quilting, reading her Bible, and traveling to Lake Havasu, Arizona every winter with Glenn. She enjoyed gardening with Glenn especially growing her flowers. Betty was a member of East Hickory Hill Baptist Church. Betty loved and enjoyed spending time with family and friends.
In addition to her husband, Betty is survived by two sons, Dewayne Catron of Bluford, Illinois, and Dwight Catron and wife, Becky of Belle Rive, Illinois; grandchildren, Amanda Robb and husband, Stephen of Kinmundy, Illinois, Tracy King and husband, Shane of Kinmundy, Illinois, Jay Catron and wife, Kristin of Bluford, Illinois, Katie Wilkinson and husband, Kyle of Farina, Illinois, Keith Catron and wife, Charmayne of Dieterich, Illinois, Larry Catron and wife, Michelle of Benton, Illinois, Jessica Summers and husband, Dennis of Akin, Illinois, Leslie Brown and husband, Jason of Wayne City, Illinois, Nick Catron and wife, Kaitlyn of Opdyke, Illinois; great-grandchildren, Mason, Chezney, and Maddox Robb, Colt and Jack King, Hadley and Wyatt Wilkinson, Rhett Catron, Micaela Brewer and husband, Dustin of Tamaroa, Illinois, Jacelyn, Landen, and Callie Jo Catron, Celia and Braden Summers, Jaiden, Libbi, Taylor, and Brandon Brown Emmy, Dixie, and Reid Catron; great-great-grandchildren, Brynlee and Bracken Brewer; sisters, Barbara Wilson and husband Ron of Mount Vernon, Illinois, and Ruth Wilson; sister-in-law, Lois DeJournett of Bluford, Illinois; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Mrs. Catron was preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Carl DeJounett, Loren DeJournett, and Robert DeJournett; and sister, Leona Greko.
A Visitation will be held on Monday, September 30, 2019 from 5:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. at Hughey Funeral Home in Mount Vernon, Illinois. A Funeral Service will be held on Tuesday, October 1, 2019 at 10:00 A.M. at Hughey Funeral Home in Mount Vernon, Illinois with Reverend Don Verhines officiating. Interment will follow at Mateer-Davis Cemetery in Jefferson County, Illinois. Memorial contributions can be made to the Matter-Davis Cemetery, American Cancer Society, and Residential Hospice of Southern Illinois and will be accepted at the funeral home.
