Bernice Eileen Breeze, 97, of Mount Vernon, Illinois passed away at 3:05 P.M. February 6, 2018 at Crossroads Community Hospital in Mount Vernon after undergoing surgery. She was born March 28, 1920 in Jefferson County, Illinois, daughter of the late Gus and Bertha (Sorensen) Draege. Bernice married Verne E. Breeze on January 26, 1941 in Mount Vernon. They were blessed with 62 years of marriage before he preceded her in death on June 18, 2003.
Bernice is survived by her daughters, Sandy Tinsley and husband, Bob of Dix, Karen Champ and husband, Dennis of Mount Vernon, and Debbie Tinsley of Dix; brother, Robert Draege of Mount Vernon; grandchildren, Wade Champ and wife, Christy of Mount Vernon, Ryan Tinsley and wife, Cindy of Mount Vernon, Tyson Tinsley and wife, Kelly of Dix, Kara Andrews and husband, Scottie of Dix, and Raye Lynn Jordon and husband, Tim of Indianapolis, Indiana; and thirteen great-grandchildren.
In addition to her parents and husband, Bernice was also preceded in death by her son-in-law, Dan Tinsley; infant sister, Anna; sister; Nelda Eater; brother-in-law, Marlin Eater; and sister-in-law, Jean Draege.
Bernice was a faithful member of New Hope “Webb” Baptist Church. In her early married life, she worked at Tri-County Electric and then later at the Mammoth Department Store. She volunteered for many years as a 4-H leader and at Nice Twice Resale. Bernice was dearly loved and will be missed by all who knew her.
A Celebration of Life for Bernice will be held Saturday, February 10, 2018 at 11:00 A.M. at Hughey Funeral Home in Mount Vernon, Illinois with Brother Alan Smith officiating. Friends and family may gather from 9:00 A.M. to service time. Interment will follow at Mount Vernon Memorial Gardens in Woodlawn, Illinois.
To honor Bernice’s loving, giving spirit, the family suggests in lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Shriner's Hospitals for Children.
