Alfred A. “Tuffy” Knowles, 94 Years, of Bonnie, Illinois passed away at 2:45 A.M. July 24, 2018 at Mount Vernon Countryside Manor in Mount Vernon, Illinois. He was born May 25, 1924 inJefferson County, Illinois to Ray Knowles and Emma (Shelton) Knowles . He married Grace Elaine Finn on December 31, 1947 in Mount Vernon, Illinois. They were blessed with 69 years of marriage until she preceded him in death on March 14, 2016.
Tuffy is survived by his son, Larry A. Knowles and wife, Peggy E. of Mount Vernon, Illinois; grandchild, Kevin Ray Parker and wife, Katie of DesPeres, Missouri; great grandchildren, Alaina Parker and Cullen Parker; several nieces and nephews; and sister-in-law, Jane Knowles of Summerfield, Illinois.
Tuffy was preceded in death by his parents; wife; brother, Kenneth Knowles; and sisters, Wanda McBride and Betty Hoots.
Tuffy served in the United States Navy in World War II on the USS Alabama, where he saw the signing of the peace treaty in Tokyo Bay. Tuffy worked in the Oil fields for Sledge Drilling Company and then worked for the Vernois Stove Company for almost 30 years before retiring. After retirement, he worked as a guard at Continental Tire for 15 years. Tuffy was an avid fisherman and quail hunter. In 1957 he became a member of the Bonnie Missionary Baptist Church and was a Deacon for the church from 1964 until he passed away.
Visitation: 11:30 A.M. until 1:30 P.M. Saturday, July 28, 2018 at Hughey Funeral Home in Mount Vernon, Illinois. Funeral Service: 1:30 P.M. Saturday, July 28, 2018 at Hughey Funeral Home with Reverend Merle Fullerton and Reverend Corey Hall officiating. Interment: Kirk Cemetery in Ina, Illinois. Members of the Mount Vernon American Legion Post #141 will conduct full Military Honors at the Cemetery. Memorials: In lieu of flowers, please make donations to the M-CM (the Macrocephaly Capillary Malformation), to assist with research in honor of his great granddaughter, Alaina.
